One cot or mat with bedding must be available for each enrolled child. Mats are intended for use during short rest periods. The use of mats must be approved by a Director.
GOOD PRACTICE
- Spread cots out to allow for access to each individual child. Check with local Public Health Unit for more information on their requirements.
- When using mats, ensure that they are positioned on a carpet that will act as an insulating layer between the mat and the floor.
- In general, mats should only be considered when:
- children do not actually sleep;
- the floor is carpeted;
- parents are in agreement;
- health approval has been granted. - Label each cot with the child’s name.
- Store cots in a convenient, secure location that does not interfere with the play area.
- Post a schedule sheet to keep track of the washing of bedding.
